Primary School

In primary school, the goal of our curriculum (OECS Performance Standards) is to provide a solid academic foundation in the core classes of math, literature study, grammar, writing workshop, word study, science, and social studies. At this level, students are taught critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, and sound study habits that will prepare them for secondary school and independent learning.

In addition, all of our students enjoy daily Word of God classes that help them grow in their faith and develop a relationship with their Savior. All subjects in our curriculum are taught from a distinctively Christian point of view, and all activities are centered in a Christian environment. Divine Savior Academy is a place where the Bible serves as the framework for guidance and truth across all areas of our curriculum.

Divine Savior Academy believes in educating the whole child and developing a knowledge and love of learning in many different areas. For this reason, specials classes are part of every student's schedule each day on a rotating basis. These specials classes include art, music, physical education, and Spanish which all help provide a complete enriching educational experience for our students.

Divine Savior Academy has a robust technology program that provides students with a safe learning space, while offering access to a multitude of tools for research and innovation. Campus-wide WiFi connects students to valuable online resources. Each classroom is equipped with a projector or interactive display, capable of sharing content from any device. Intentional integrations throughout the curriculum foster communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.

Each year, per government expectations, standardised achievement assessments are administered to the students in grades 2, 4, and 5. The Minimum Competency Test (MCT) compares our students with national averages using percentiles. These assessments are useful in evaluating strengths and areas requiring further development in the curriculum. This serves to foster change and improvement. Achievement tests can be helpful in measuring each child’s academic progress over the past year.  
In Grade 6, students take the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), administered by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) for placement into secondary school.  

Additionally, at the beginning of each academic year reading fluency assessments are conducted from kindergarten to 6th grade to help us identify struggles, evaluate comprehension, track progress, and guide instruction.
